As the owner of an apartment in Le Marais, Karl wanted to invest in a second property and offer a family the opportunity to settle into a modern cocoon, fully fitted out and equipped.

It was in the lively Nation district that he set his sights on a run-down, compartmentalised Haussmann apartment where the entire space needed to be rethought.

Our objective for this project: to transform this outdated property into a modern, functional apartment while respecting the codes and charm of the original.

First mission: to improve circulation by removing the corridor partitions that linked the entrance to the living area, creating one single open space and making the most of the natural light from the living room windows.

The original apartment also lacked storage considerably. We added:

– A column unit with wardrobe and mirrored door in the entrance

– A storage arch for paperwork and crockery linking the living room to the kitchen

– Two wardrobes as well as wall shelves in the bedrooms.

With the idea of modernising the entire property, the kitchen and shower room were fully renovated, from plumbing and electrics to the overall layout. We chose a superb turquoise “kit kat” format tile as a common thread to brighten up both rooms.

The kitchen, particularly narrow, now benefits from two facing runs that incorporate an oven, hob, extractor hood, fridge and sink. Everything was designed down to the centimetre to avoid wasting any space and maximise storage!

In the shower room, the existing bathtub was replaced with a magnificent tiled walk-in shower. The partition separating the bathroom from the WC was removed to lighten the space and make circulation easier.

Finally, the bedrooms were designed to offer soothing spaces conducive to relaxation, with panoramic wallpapers and soft colours worked in zoning to define the areas, along with bespoke joinery.

The original herringbone parquet floor was repaired, sanded and sealed to restore all its shine. The mouldings were lightened and recreated to preserve the charm typical of Haussmann apartments.
